Christie’s Explores Impact of Web3 & AI on Art Institutions

The annual summit hosted by auction giant Christie’s in partnership with MoonPay, Gucci, Chainalysis and Outlier Ventures explored how Web3 and AI are helping art institutions reach audiences they didn’t have access to before, with digital being among the most accessible art forms.

Panelists Discuss Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

The panelists discussed the impact of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on art globally. Lukas Amacher from digital-art-focused collector’s club 1OF1 argued that NFTs are the “enabler” that confirms that collecting digital objects “makes sense now”. However, he noted that there needs to be a bridge between traditional art world and Web3 as both remain very siloed from each other.

Web3 Expanding Reach Of Art Institutions

Madeleine Pierpont from Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) stated that Web3 is expanding the reach of art institutions to audiences it didn’t have access to before – noting digital art as one of the most accessible forms of any existing form.

AI Not A Threat To Artistic Production & Curation

Pierpont argued that AI is a tool and there isn’t much legitimacy in it being a threat to artistic production or curation. She added it might add more complexity and elevate thinking about your artwork if used properly. Anthony Troisi from Miami Institute for Contemporary Arts also opined similarly – noting human curation aspect still important even when using technology in arts.

Crypto Still Infant In Arts World

The panelists concluded by noting crypto was still an infant in arts world but had potential for growth if people’s interest continues growing over time – allowing them greater ways to express themselves via creative works through blockchain technology.
